Reward Credit Cards Explained

Reward credit cards, are credit cards which offer loyalty programs to their customers and provide incentives to card holders to use their card. Credit card reward programs offer everything from shopping discounts, air miles, and reward points which can be used to redeem free gifts offered by the card issuer.

Reward programs often sound very appealing, however it is extremely important that holders of reward credit cards take advantage of what they have to offer, otherwise the card itself is of little use. This is because reward credit cards usually come with hidden charges attached, many charge higher rates of interest than ordinary credit cards. Therefore having a credit card which offers the prospect of free travel if the customer spends enough money on the card is of very little value if the card holder rarely travels.

It is also important when choosing a rewards credit card to consider the rewards program itself and what kind of benefits and inducements are offered and whether they provide any value. Many card issuers offer highly attractive rewards, but bank on the fact that many of their customers will never take advantage of them, forgetting to redeem the points, and enabling the card issuer to extract a higher fee or charge a higher interest rate for almost nothing in return.
